About Us

McGraw Seafood is a First Nations-owned seafood processing company located in Atlantic Canada. Our company specializes in processing Canadian snow crab, known for its sweet, delicate flavour and tender meat.

McGraw Seafood was founded in 1973 and was purchased in 2008 by Elsipogtog First Nation, vertically integrated itself into the supply chain as the owner of a major snow crab quota.

The BRC-certified company creates 200 positions, held primarily by Acadians from the area, in addition to another 150 Indigenous fishermen who sell raw materials directly to the plant.

Benefits generated by McGraw Seafood are used to aid in the well-being of the Elsipogtog First Nation.

This processing line incorporates the latest technology to ensure the highest levels of safety, efficiency, and quality control.

Our new processing line was completed in 2021 and it’s designed to handle large volumes of snow crab quickly and efficiently. It uses a range of advanced equipment and systems, including sorting machines, steamers, and packaging machines, to ensure that the crab is processed quickly and accurately.

Overall, the new automated snow crab processing line represents the latest in seafood processing technology. With its advanced automation, real-time monitoring, and focus on safety and quality control, this investment has helped us obtain BRC certification while also ensuring that our customers receive the highest quality snow crab possible.

Fête de l'Acadie

A depiction of a historical moment in the history of Canada, Brian J. Francis painted the original piece on August 15, 2020,  Fête de l'Acadie.  Based on prophecies told about the arrival of a new people on a "floating Island".  "... they came upon a new land to be welcomed by its people."

Indigenous Ownership

In 2008, Elsipogtog First Nation purchased McGraw Seafood which has been an important economic development initiative for Elsipogtog. The plant provides employment for community members and generates revenue for the First Nation.

The community has a population of approximately 3,000 people and is one of the largest First Nations in New Brunswick. The Elsipogtog First Nation is known for its strong cultural identity and has a rich history of resistance to colonialism and resource extraction.

The revenue generated by McGraw Seafood has been used to fund a variety of programs and initiatives that benefit the community. For example, the profits have been used to support education and training programs, cultural activities, and community infrastructure projects. This has helped to improve the overall well-being of community members and support the long-term economic development of the First Nation.
